1 After Ganesha was born, Parvati ordered him to guard her chambers. She told Ganesha that he should not allow anyone to enter and he obediently followed his mother's orders.
2 After a while when Lord Shiva returned home, he was puzzled to see a toddler guarding his wife’s court.
3 Ganapati was bound by his mother’s orders and also didn’t know who the visitor was. So he requested Shiva to wait until his mother Parvati lets him in.
4 Shiva got infuriated and assumed this request as an insult. He lost his temper and in a fit of rage, he beheaded Ganesha's head with his trident, killing him instantly.
5 Parvati heard her son’s cry and rushed out of her court. When she saw Ganapati's lifeless body, she grew sad and angry.
6 She furiously demanded Shiva get her son back or else she will destroy everything that makes the world exist.
7 Lord Brahma along with all the other Demigods tried to pacify Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva asked Lord Brahma to get the head of any child who is sleeping with his face away from his mother.
8 Lord Brahma returned with the severed head of a baby elephant. Lord Shiva didn’t question him and restore Ganapati's life by attaching the elephant's head to his neck.
